How We Started Craving More Ideas

Ideas come to those that seek them. Having an awesome idea is about connecting things at the right time and in the right place. But as the number of distractions increases, the number of ideas we consume on a daily basis is shrinking.

We live in a busy world. Although Alpha Efficiency is about challenging the need to be “busy”, we know that making changes towards a more balanced life can’t always happen instaneously. Neck-deep in the rat race and with our time committed in multiple endeavours, many of us have no time to read. We scrape blog posts here and there, follow our RSS feeds, but these blurbs are often light on content. Where are the great ideas? This is where Blinkist comes in. Blinkist gives you access to some of the brightest and best ideas in the published world without requiring you to invest endless hours reading them all.

What is Blinkist and how does it relate to ideas?

You can describe Blinkist in two words: “Cliff Notes”. These short book summaries are perfect for digital knowledge worker that needs to consume new ideas on daily basis.

Blinks became a highly nutritious item in my information diet. Longer than a blog post, but much shorter than an actuak book! Long just enough to inspire you, but not to bother you.

Blinkist

Functionality

The iOS app is very clean and minimal, focusing you on what is most important: the content. It is definitively an app that has AlphaEfficiency stamp of approval, just important stuff, no clutter. Android user? Not to worry! There’s an Android app coming in the next few weeks.

Design 4.5/5

Minimalistic perfection and functionality. The only user experience flaw on iPhone is that you can’t read in horizontal mode. I’ve sent it as a feedback to their team, and they were very receptive of the idea. It is always engaging and refreshing seeing teams actively listening to their users.

Optimization 5/5

This app is universal, working on both iPhone and iPad. The web version of it works on most of the adopted browsers; so I’d say pretty polished. I haven’t encountered any glitches or bugs while I’ve used it.

Integrations 4/5

Blinkist has light integration with Apple’s native sharing button. While it’s good, it could be better, to include other services like Instapaper and Evernote… But that is not a detriment to the app usage.

Overall 4.5/5

The app sets very high quality standards for reading, that even puts Instapaper to shame. This is now my reading app of choice.

Does it justify the price?

Definitively yes! With productivity classics like the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Getting Things Done, in addition to newly trending titles like Business Adventures, the best way to check out their content database (which is growing on daily basis), is to give it a trial.
